Thin...
Of all the Tahoe resorts Mt. Rose and Diamond Peak may be fairing the worse. Last year, because of it's high elevation, Rose was lucky enough to get a little snow while everyone else got rain. This year Rose has not been so lucky. The small number of storms that we have received hit the sierra crest the hardest and faded by the time they reached Rose. Additionally, most resorts have been able to help maintain their groomers with snowmaking, but Rose has very limited snowmaking capabilities. Mt. Rose's high elevation has the effect of keeping things a bit colder and so they aren't having a problem with these warmer days melting the snow. The groomers are very firm. But they should be better as temperatures continue to warm. Off-piste conditions are very thin. In a nutshell, Mt. Rose is barely hanging on. On the plus side the crowds are down even on the weekends... |
