Although it has been consistently cold at night we have been getting a taste of spring in the afternoons for the last week or so. This has created fun soft snow off-piste, but after a week of this weather the groomers have lost their perfect texture. The groomers are still fun, but once the top layer of cordoroy gets skied off they have an icy feel to them. Off-piste is yielding some great spring conditions in the late morning and early afternoon, but watch out for rocks. High-T has some great spring snow. The backside traverse is burnt out. You can still get to the High-T pretty easily from upper saddle, but your skis will have to come off. Southface is also getting soft early, but is getting rocky quick. FYI- rumour has it that alpine will stop running Sherwood during the week. You can also find spring conditions on Sun Spot and the far side of Wolverine, Beaver and Estelle Bowls. The traverse out to Beaver is surprisingly great. Alpine somehow groomed it halfway there and presumable because of lack of snowboarder foot traffic the skier traverse has coverage. Shadier aspects are still skiing decently. The conditions are certainly firm, but at the same time consistently edgeable. The D Chutes and the north side of Peril Ridge have some nice sugary zones. The mountain is getting a bit more bumped out, but they are reasonable small. Scott chair has a lot of not so good conditions. Like many places on the mountain that only get the afternoon sun - it is pretty crusty. Pray for snow... |
